A Little About Myself and my photography
I am a Kentucky Photographer. I work as a Wedding Photographer, Equine Photographer, Portrait Photographer ( including Family, Children, Babies, Pets and Senior Photography), and also as a Nature and Fine Art Photographer. I sell prints featuring my nature and scenics. One of my largest projects was photographing all of the Art Horses that were in Lexington a few years back. I will have some of my favorite images added to my galleries later in the year. I also do Photoshop work and re-touch work.
I grew up here in Kentucky enjoying the surroundings that this wonderful and gorgeous state provides us. I started photographing with my mother's old Yashica camera at the age of 8. Living in Menifee County on the edge of Daniel Boone National Forest, Cave Run Lake and The Red River Gorge for most of my life, this is where my love of nature and animals began. Horse back riding or hiking with my sister, fishing with my brother, camping and boating with my dad. These are some of things that have helped lead me into photography. I attended college at Eastern Kentucky University with the Art Department, where I began 'to see', I learned more about light and form in drawing, two dimentional and three dimentional, sculpting, painting and metalsmithing classes. I was majoring in Jewelry & Metalsmithing. By the time I was in my Junior year I took my first photography classes. This led to a passion in photography ( and a change of majors ). I love seeing the way light falls on all types of objects whether that is a flower, a face or body ( a sheen on skin or fur), or a car. Photography is a life-long learning process. You can learn something new everyday for the entirety of your life, and still, there would be so much more to learn. I have enjoyed any type of photography I have tried, from pinhole to digital. Most of the fascination with photography is the learning process and seeing all the things you have worked on come together in the final outcome - usually, the print. Whether that is getting exactly what you saw in your minds eye, a lighting situation or catching that action or look at that precise moment, where you just know you've captured what you were looking for... or even better yet, when you've caught something great that you never even saw at the time you captured the image. What a thrill it can be.
My biggest thrill has been sharing the experience with my husband of having my son and watching him grow. He is now two years old and a constant subject in front of my lens. He is not the typical 'smile, mommy is pointing the camera at you' child, he goes on with his business as usual. That is what I want to capture, everyday moments, showing personality. This is also what I feel should be a part of every Wedding I photograph. Not just snap shots or only the posed images, but a blend of capturing the story of what goes on during the day and documenting it, along with the group images with beautiful lighting. I prefer to photograph the majority of the group shots outdoors if possible. Finding the right location along with the right time for lighting can make a world of difference in how your images will look. This can make the difference in wanting to hang the image on your wall or hiding it under the bed.
I am based in Kentucky but will travel to do whatever photography you may need. I have assistants who travel with me to help in whatever manner needed.
